ANN W. MARTIN

MOUNT OLIVE -- Ann Wilson Martin, 71, after a lingering illness, and while in the familiar surroundings of her home, passed peacefully into eternal rest. She was surrounded by her devoted family and dearest friends when death came in the early morning hours of Saturday, Jan. 24.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Tyndall Funeral Home with the Rev. Blaine Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, where her remains will be laid to rest with those of her son and other immediate family members.
Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her son, N.C. Highway Trooper Michael Louis Martin; her parents, Leslie Durald Wilson and Eula Pollock Wilson; a sister, Lorraine Wilson Smith; and a brother, L. Durald Wilson Jr.
She is survived by her husband, A.N. Martin III, with whom she celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past Christmas Day; a son, Stephen C. Martin of Mount Olive and his friend, Laura Kay Sellers, and her children, Jessie Lynn Murphy, Joey Murphy, and Kelly Kay Murphy, all of Mount Olive; her daughter-in-law, LaDonna S. Martin, widow of Trooper Martin, of Greensboro; a brother-in-law, George B. Martin of Mount Olive; nieces, Susie S. Bundy of Mount Olive, Barbara M. Musselman, and Lynn M. Elmo, both of Goldsboro; nephews, Raymond L. "Corky" Smith of Mount Olive, Frank Wilson of Thomasville, and Matt Wilson of Winston-Salem; her beloved beagle, "Shorty;" and many, many friends.
It was in Mount Olive that she was born and lived the major part of her life. She will be remembered for her work as a floral designer, having been the founder and proprietor of Ann's Flower Shoppe in Mount Olive. She was a proud member of the Dudley Christian Church. During the early years of Mr. and Mrs. Martin's marriage, they lived in Durham where she was eligibility director of the Durham County Dept. of Social Services.
The Martin family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9, and at other times at the Stephen Martin residence, 513 W. James St., Mount Olive.
A special note of gratitude is extended to Dr. James Atkins and his staff at Southeastern Medical Oncology Center and to the 3HC staff for the excellent care and compassion shown to Mrs. Martin and her family during the extended duration of her illness.
