LESTER L. WADDELL

KENLY -- Lester L. Waddell, 87, passed away Thursday evening at his home surrounded by his family.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 6 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with the Revs. Andy Stovall and Wayne Hargrove officiating. The family received friends following the service. Interment will be today at 2 p.m. in the Waddell Family Cemetery with military honors.

Lester was born in Wayne County on Nov. 7, 1921 to the late Willie B. Waddell and Sular Barnes Waddell. He was a retired farmer, having farmed on the family farm all his life. Lester enjoyed hunting, watching baseball and was a great lover of music. He was a member of Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church. Lester served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was the recipient of the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.

Lester is survived by his wife, Ruby B. Waddell; his children, Mickey Waddell and wife, Carolyn, and Debbie Edgerton and husband, Pat; his grandchildren, Gary Waddell and wife, Michelle, Shannon Ammons and Steve Bland, and Angie W. Sullivan; his great-grandchildren, Cody Sullivan, Summer Sullivan, Colton Davis, Carson Waddell and Craig Ammons; his brother, Raymond Waddell and his beloved border collie, Lady. He is also survived by his step-children, Dennis Collier and wife, Cindy, and Janet Bridgers and husband, Freddie; and his step-grandchildren, Jason Bridgers, Adam Bridgers and April Collier.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Ruth L. Waddell; his sisters, Geneva Pope and Pearl Stone; and his brothers, Aaron Waddell, Robert Waddell, Clarence Waddell, Frank Waddell, Guy Waddell and Roy Waddell.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church, Kenly, N.C. 27542.

The family would like to express a special thanks to the WilMed Hospice for the special care and love shown to Lester during his declining health.

At other times, the family will be at his home, 605 Joe Morris Road, Kenly.
