MOUNT OLIVE -- Deborah Holmes Benson, 56, John Lewis Grady Road in the Oak Ridge community, died Sunday afternoon at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.

A service to celebrate and remember her life will be held Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the chapel of Tyndall Funeral Home. Officiating will be the Rev. Lynwood Boyette. A time of visitation with the family will follow the service. Friends and relatives are also invited to call at the home of her daughter, 417 John Lewis Grady Road.

Debbie, as she was known to most, was born in Enid, Okla., while her father was stationed at Vance Air Force Base there. Reared in the Oak Ridge community near Mount Olive, she attended the B.F. Grady School and graduated from East Duplin High School.

Employed by Barnes and Noble in the Mount Olive College Bookstore at the time of her death, most of her employment years were in the insurance business at several local insurance agencies. Also in years past, she was employed at F.C.X. in Mount Olive. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.

Surviving family members include her daughter, Tonya Benson Tillman; granddaughter, Kendall Tillman; her mother, Jane Grady Holmes; and a brother and sister-in-law, Everett and Monica Holmes, all of the Oak Ridge community near Mount Olive; a niece, Amy Holmes and a nephew, Steven Holmes, both of Greensboro; her former husband and the father of her two children, Jackie Kendall Benson and his wife, Pat, of Faison; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her son, Patrick Kendall Benson; her father, Maurice E.Holmes; a son-in-law, William Tillman; and her grandparents, Ed and Minne Grady, and Park and Evelyn Holmes.

Arrangements are being handled by Tyndall Funeral Home.
