MOUNT OLIVE -- Mrs. Mamie Franck Haywood Allen, 93, died early Thursday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home with Dr. Dennis Atwood and Scott Hardy officiating. Visitation will follow immediately after the service. Burial will be held at 3 p.m. in Trenton at Trenton City Cemetery.

Mrs. Allen, a resident of Glen-Care of Mount Olive, was a former resident of Sleepy Creek at Dudley. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mount Olive. A retired elementary school teacher, she taught in several area schools, including the former Mount Olive Elementary School and Carver Elementary School. She retired in 1982.

A native of Jones County and having been named "Miss Jones County" in her younger years, she married Thomas Richard Allen Sr., a military man, and followed him in his various military appointments. Mr. Allen preceded her in death in 1995.

Mrs. Allen is survived by a daughter, Penny Sue Allen Brock of Durham; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas R. "Tommy" Allen Jr. and Gloria Wilson Allen of Sleepy Creek at Dudley; four granddaughters, Skyler Haywood Allen Hardy and husband, Scott Hardy, of the Jason area near LaGrange, Caitlin "Katie" Aldridge Allen of Sleepy Creek, Dudley, Lydia Susan Brock Travis and husband, Jesse Travis, of Butner, and Leah Elizabeth Brock of Durham; and three great-granddaughters, Mary Gray Hardy, Emma-Scott Haywood Hardy, and Matilda Cavel Travis.

At times other than the visitation, the family will receive friends at the Tommy Allen residence, 132 Quail Drive, Sleepy Creek at Dudley.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Friends of Steele Memorial Library, 111 N. Chestnut St., Mount Olive, N.C., 28365, or to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 239, Mount Olive, N.C., 28365.

Arrangements are being handled by Tyndall Funeral Home.
