Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" Daly Strickland, 69, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday evening surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Stevens and the Rev. Steve Cayton officiating. Burial will follow in Pineview Cemetery in Seven Springs.

Dot was born in Wayne County on Sept. 23, 1939, to the late J.B. Daly and Ethel Parks Daly. She was married to the late Ray Strickland. Dot owned and operated Dot's Country Kitchen in Goldsboro. She was a member of St. John Free Will Baptist Church.

Dot is survived by her son, Dean Ervin and wife, Terri; her brothers, John P. Daly and wife, Rose, of Seven Springs and Charles Daly and wife, Jean, of Goldsboro; her sister, Barbara Thompson and husband, David, of Goldsboro; her grandsons, Stewart Ervin and wife, Lindsay, of Winterville, Justin Ervin and wife, Natalie, of Wilmington and Jeremy Ervin of Grifton; and a great-grandson, Colby Ervin. She is also survived by her stepson, Dennis Strickland and wife, Susan, of Goldsboro and her daughter-in-law, Cindy Strickland of Mount Olive.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her stepson, Robin Strickland.

Flowers are welcome, or memorials may be made to St. John Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund, 1926 Highway 111 S., Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the home of Barbara and David Thompson, 2272 Highway 111 S., Goldsboro.
