Esther Stephens Goodman, 183 Gurley Ave., died early Wednesday morning at Pitt Memorial Hospital.

A memorial service will be held Monday, Jan. 12, 2009 at 1 p.m. at St. Francis Episcopal Church with the Rev. Dr. A.O. Vannorsdall officiating.

Esther was born to the late Dollie H. and Andrew J. Stephens on Oct. 10, 1941 in Sewanee, Tenn. She was a graduate of Franklin County High School and Wayne Community College.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Robert K. Goodman; her two sons, Robert E. "Robbie" Goodman and fiancée, Rhonda Wheeler, of Goldsboro, and Stephen C. "Stevie" Goodman and wife, Lori, of Seven Springs; two sisters, Christine Talbert and husband, David, of Dickson, Tenn., and Terri Henley and husband, Richard, of Sewanee, Tenn.; her brothers, Charles W. Stephens and wife, Faye, of Waverly, Tenn., and Kim Stephens and wife, Perline, of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; her brother-in-law, James Foster of Monteagle, Tenn.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Dixie S. Foster.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to St. Francis Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 11406, Goldsboro, N.C. 27532.

The family will receive friends following the service at St. Francis Episcopal Church and other times at her home.
