MOUNT OLIVE -- Curtis L. "Pete" Jones, 78, 1589 N.C. Highway 55 W., Mount Olive, died Tuesday at his home.

The Jones family will receive friends at Tyndall Funeral Home on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and at other times at the residence. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Tyndall Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Wayne Memorial Park.

Curtis was born June 13, 1930, to the late J. Leslie and Addie Wolfe Jones. He served with the United States Army and was a retired postal carrier and a farmer in the Smith Chapel community.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Ann Jones; two daughters, Debbie Grantham and husband, Ted of Grantham and Donna Crumpler and husband, Jimmy of Mount Olive; son, Dennis Jones and wife, Lori of Goldsboro; two brothers, J.L. Jones and wife, Evadeane and Elton Jones, all of Mount Olive; three sisters-in-law, Betsy Jones, Lillie Jones and Helen Jones, all of Mount Olive; 12 grandchildren, Vanessa, Chris, and Blake Crumpler, Garrett Barfield, Amber and Tara Jones, Whitney and Hannah Grantham, Jennifer, Emily, and Natalie McArthur, and Ryan Knopf; and many special nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ruel Jones and Hurley "Shorty" Jones.

In lieu of flowers, it is the wishes of the family that memorial gifts be made to Smith Chapel United Methodist Church, c/o Betsy Jones, 1651 N.C. Highway 55 W., Mount Olive, N.C., 28365, or to the American Cancer Society, 930 Wellness Drive, Suite B, Greenville, N.C., 27834.

Arrangements are being handled by Tyndall Funeral Home.
