SEVEN SPRINGS -- James Kenneth "Jim" Fortson, 60, passed away suddenly on Saturday afternoon at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be tonight at 6 in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with the Rev. Ira Williford officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
Jim was born in Greenwood, S.C. on July 26, 1948, to the late David Columbus Fortson and Lottie Denning Fortson. He retired from the United States Air Force with over 29 years of service to his country. Jim attended the United In Christ Church.
Jim is survived by his wife, Callie Williford Fortson; his daughter, Kim Fortson and her son, Peyton of Goldsboro; his son, Michael Fortson and wife, Brooke of Raleigh; his stepsons, Michael Turnage of Washington and Jamie Turnage of Goldsboro; his brothers, Ray Fortson of Greenville, S.C., Jerry Fortson of Greenwood, S.C., Junior Fortson of Greenwood, S.C. and Bob Fortson of Alabama; three stepgrandchildren, Phillip, Ethan and Aiden Turnage.
He is also survived by many special friends including his special companions, Chico and Missy Marie.
The family will receive friends tonight following the service at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at his home, 106 Springside Drive, Seven Springs.
