SHARON F. COLEY

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- Mrs. Sharon Fannea Coley, beloved wife of Rudolph Coley Jr., passed away peacefully on Nov. 9, 2008, at DeKalb Medical Center in Lithonia, Ga.
Funeral services were held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home Chapel, 1500 Wayne Memoiral Drive in Goldsboro. Burial will follow in the Coley Cemetery in Pikeville.
Sharon was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Oct. 22, 1946. She attended both elementary and high school in Brooklyn. After graduating from high school, Sharon immediately entered the U.S. Army, finishing her stint as an non-commissioned officer.
Sharon earned a Ford Foundation Scholarship to the University of Massachusetts, where she received a bachelor's degree in education. Sharon then re-entered the U.S. Army, ultimately attaining the rank of captain. She also continued her education at Pepperdine University, receiving a master's degree in human resources management.
Sharon's expertise and discipline earned her the position of professor of military science at Prairie View A&M University and company commander at Ft. Gordon, Ga. Her military connection afforded her the opportunity to travel outside the U.S. to the American Embassy in Kuwait, and to U.S. Army bases in Germany and Korea. Sharon retired after 28 years of combined service with the U.S. military and the Department of Veteran Affairs.
Sharon was a go-getter, strong, devoted, loving, funny, kind, and yes, a great gourmet cook. She will never be replaced.
In addition to her husband of mroe than 30 years, Sharon leaves to cherish wonderful memories, a stepdaughter, Michelle Anderson (Tony); two stepgranddaughters, DeOnna and Kharmon Anderson; siblings, Sandra Wilson, Val Wilson, Simone Shubrick (Phillip), Stanley Wilson, Darryl Wilson (Valarie), Joseph Wilson; and a very special cousin, Janet Mark; sister-in-law, Vivian Coley Malloy (James); brother-in-law, Clarence Coley (Mittie Jean); and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Her most loving adoptive parents, Benjamin and Estella Turner, predeceased Sharon.
