EUGENE ELMO BRASWELL

ROCKY MOUNT -- Eugene "Gene" Elmo Braswell, 87, passed away Sunday.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Rocky Mount Memorial Park Mausoleum, 4454 Dortches Blvd., Highway 43 N., Rocky Mount, N.C., 27804, with the Rev. Kathy Jo Mitchell and Dr. John Browning officiating.

He was born Oct. 14, 1921, in Johnston County to the late Walter Phillip and Eva Bailey Braswell.

Mr. Braswell was a retired car inspector for the CSX Railroad and a WWII Army veteran. He was a member of First Christian Church of Rocky Mount.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Myrtlene Joyner Braswell of the home; daughter, Lyndia Braswell Sasser and husband, Patrick of Goldsboro; son, Eugene Elmo Braswell Jr. and wife, Vickie of Atlantic Beach; brother, Lewis Phillip Braswell of Henderson; stepsons, Jimmy Dale Lindsey and wife, Margie of Tampa, Fla., Billy Ray Lindsey and wife, Sally of Rocky Mount; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. following the service at First Christian Church.

Flowers are accepted or memorial donations may be made to First Christian Church, 1101 W. Haven Blvd., Rocky Mount, N.C., 27803.

Arrangements are being handled by Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home, 1130 N. Winstead Ave., Rocky Mount, N.C., 27804.
