MOUNT OLIVE -- William Ray Odom, 85, 411 N. Johnson St., long time associate at Tyndall Funeral Home, died Wednesday afternoon at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

His family will receive friends at Tyndall Funeral Home on Saturday from 2 to 3 p.m. followed by a graveside service at Wayne Memorial Park at 3:30 p.m. with the Rev. J. Paul Rose and Dr. Dennis R. Atwood officiating.

At times, other than those stated above, friends and family are welcome to the residence.

Ray is survived by a daughter, Debra Odom of Mount Olive; a son, Leland Odom and wife, Amy of Aurora, Colorado; a granddaughter, Heather D. Puckett and husband, Dennis of Mount Olive; two grandsons, Ronald Cloud III and fiancée, Sandy Garris and her daughters, Ashley, Candice, and Amber Heath, all of Goldsboro, and Jason Odom; a great-grandson, Ray Lucas Puckett of Mount Olive; a sister, Hazel Odom Brown of Mount Olive; a brother, James Odom of Fuquay-Varina; a sister-in-law, Lucy Lee Odom of Bentonville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Jones Odom; his parents, Walter R. and Fannie Huffman Odom; a sister, Tempie Odom; and a brother, Norwood C. Odom.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances of Ray may be made to American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, Va., 23058; First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 239, Mount Olive, N.C., 28365, or to Public Broadcasting System (PBS), 10 T.W. Alexander Drive, Research Triangle Park, N.C., 27709.

"All good things must come to an end," and so it is with our association with Ray, our loved one, our friend; He was our "little man," our hero, loyal to us as he could be;

Sadly, we bid farewell to him until, him, again we'll see. By his beloved family and the Tyndall staff.
