Mrs. Annie Artis Bass, 61, lovingly known by her family and friends as "Annie," 194 Jesse Jackson St., Parkstown Community, LaGrange, departed this life on Wednesday, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Guiding Star Holy Church, 1114 South Slocumb St., with Pastor Joseph Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park Cemetery North, 1191 Old Grantham Road. A viewing will be held on Tuesday at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 423 S. James St. from 1 to 7 p.m. A wake will be conducted Tuesday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Chapel.

Annie was born March 4, 1947, in Wayne county to Walter Artis and the late Mary Rowe Artis. She attended Central High School and was a graduate of Dillard High School of Goldsboro. Mrs. Bass was an employee of the Wayne County Public School System and a faithful bus driver for Eastern Wayne Elementary School. She was a loving member of Guiding Star Holy Church of Goldsboro.

Two brothers, Robert Artis, Oscar Artis and a nephew, Tyrone Artis, preceded her in death.

Left to cherish her loving memories are her son, Jerome McDuffie of Sonyea, N.Y.; her father, Walter Artis (Marie) of Goldsboro; four sisters, Patty Mitchell of Land-O-Lakes, Fla., Maisy Wooten (Arthur) of Goldsboro, Daisy Smith (Howard) of Newport News, Va., and Faye Hill (Charles) of Goldsboro; one sister-in-law, Paula Artis of LaGrange; a very special friend, Charles Alexandra of Washington; a loving Aunt, Pearlie Mae Whitfield of Goldsboro; one Uncle, James (Jazel) Artis of Wilson; a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

At other times, the family will receive friends and other family members at the residence of Mr. And Mrs. Arthur Wooten, 219 Corral Drive, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
