LEONARD TEACHEY

MOUNT OLIVE -- Charles Leonard Teachey went home on Saturday, Oct. 11, to be with his Lord and Savior. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his family, after battling cancer for five months.
On Tuesday, Oct. 14, at 7 p.m., a service to celebrate Leonard's life will be held at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive. Dr. Ronald Ginn will officiate.
He was born April 23, 1939, in Duplin County to the late William Allen and Katie Pearl Teachey.
After his completion of high school, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Lexington. Upon leaving the Navy, he married the former Linda Rivenbark of Rose Hill and they moved to Mount Olive, where he began his 38-year career with The Mount Olive Tribune, retiring in 2001. He then worked part-time as a courier with New Century Bank in Goldsboro.
Leonard is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda Rivenbark Teachey; two daughters, Brenda Teachey Barwick and husband, Ricky, and Deborah Teachey Shivar and husband, Phil, all of Mount Olive; three grandchildren whom he adored, Hope Elizabeth Shivar, Matthew Philip Shivar and Cody Miles Wendorf; a brother, William Allen Teachey of Rose Hill; a sister, Elizabeth T. Deal and husband, Eddie, of Burgaw; his parents-in-law, Sam and Dorothy Rivenbark of Rose Hill; a sister-in-law, Jeri R. Bradshaw and husband, Harry, of Rose Hill; a brother-in-law, Bud Rivenbark and wife, Donna, of Sneads Ferry; and a host of nieces, nephews and special friends.
Also left to cherish his precious memories were his coffee buddies who met every night at McDonald's in Mount Olive for coffee and to solve the world's problems.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Teachey, who lived at Wallace, and a sister, Anna Pearl Hammond, who lived in South Carolina.
Visitation will immediately follow the service. Interment will be on Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 11 a.m. in Maplewood Cemetery.
Flowers are welcome, or memorial gifts may be made to the charity of one's choosing.
