MARY LILY EDGERTON

Sept. 19, 1914-Sept. 26, 2008

Mrs. Mary Lily Walters Edgerton, 94, went to be with her Lord on Friday, Sept. 26, 2008 at Brighton Gardens in Raleigh. She previously resided at 1109 E. Beech Street, Goldsboro, N.C. 27530.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 3 p.m. at St. Luke United Methodist Church followed by a service at 3 p.m. The Rev. Adam Seate will officiate. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in LaGrange.

Mrs. Edgerton was born in Lenoir County on Sept. 19, 1914 to the late Noah Henry Walters and Inez Dawson Walters. She was married for 57 years to the late Newlin F. Edgerton.

Mrs. Edgerton was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church. She loved her church and was very active. She retired from Dr. D.E. Best's office in 1985, where she was a nurse for 47 years. Mrs. Edgerton was an inspiration to all of those who knew her. She was a loving and caring person who spent her life helping others.

Mrs. Edgerton is survived by her sister-in-law, Rosemond B. Walters of Charlotte; a brother-in-law, Dock Edgerton and wife, Joan; a sister-in-law, Billie Niles; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and many loving friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Grace W. Krueger and Julia W. Riddle, and her brothers, Alex H. Walters, Noah H. Walters, William Durward Walters and Lloyd Emery Walters.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for the loving care and attention provided to Mrs. Edgerton by the staff of Brighton Gardens Assisted Living.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Luke United Methodist Church, 1608 E. Pine St., Goldsboro, N.C. 27530 or the charity of one's choice.
