Died Sept. 18, 2008

LAGRANGE -- Mrs. Sophia Bryant, 88, 604-A Firetower Road, died Sept. 18 at Lenoir Memorial Hospital, Kinston.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at noon at St. Luke Free Will Baptist Church, 306 W. King St., LaGrange with Dr. W.M. Bessent officiating. Burial will follow at LaGrange Cemetery, LaGrange.

Mrs. Bryant was a life long native of Lenoir County, where she attended public schools. She was a member of St. Luke Free Will Baptist Church in LaGrange serving diligently as a mother on the Mother Board, Senoir Choir Member, Floral Club President, Pastor's Aid, Trustee Board, Kitchen Committee, Home Mission, and in the community the Washington Street Circle Organization.

Mrs. Bryant is survived by three daughters, Margaret Miles and husband Norman, Vivian C. Cummings both of LaGrange and Lue H. Lynch of Washington, D.C.; one foster-daughter, Darlene Messerli and husband Charles of Greenville; one foster-son, Eugene Carter of Goldsboro; two granddaughters, Shirley Seaward of LaGrange and Norma Miles of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one foster-granddaughter, Minnie Thompson of Goldsboro; three grandsons, Donald and Vincent Miles of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Clarence Miles of Plainfield, N.J.; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives, church family and dear friends.

The family will meet friends on Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. at St. Luke Free Will Baptist Church in LaGrange.

Arrangements are being handled by Mitchell's Funeral Home, 1000 Howell St., Greenville.
