Mr. John Ernest Anderson, 59, 1107 S. Taylor St., son of the late Robert Henry and Dorothy Burrell Anderson, died Friday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Goldsboro-Raleigh Assembly Church of Christ Disciples of Christ Inc., 214 W. Hooks River Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530, with the Rev. Dr. William J. Barber officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

A viewing will be held on Thursday from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 423 S. James St. The family will receive friends at Greenleaf Christian Church, 2110 N. Williams St., from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The Masonic Rites will also be held at this time.

Mr. Anderson was born May 3, 1949, reared and educated in Pennsylvania. He graduated from Darby Colwyn High School in 1968, and joined the United States Army serving in the 25th Infantry. He was honorably discharged in 1970.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Anderson Jr.

He drove trucks for ACME and retired after 35 years of service, then moved to Goldsboro in 1999. He then met the former Mary Edwards and on March 20, 2004, at Greenleaf Christian Church Disciples of Christ, they were united in marriage. They became active members of Greenleaf Christian Church. He continued to exhibit his love, care, compassion and understanding in his home and community.

John belonged to St. Albans No. 35 Masonic Lodge, Philadelphia, Pa., Domolay Consistory No. 1, Philadelphia, Pa., and Minaret Temple, Chester, Pa. When he moved to Goldsboro, he became an associate member of Mizpah Temple No. 66. He also served as a Past Desert Officer for the State of N.C. and worked with the Knights of Pythagas and the Goldsboro High School Cougars Club. He also assisted with supporting the Gleaners, and served as president of Willow Run West Phase POA.

He is survived by his lovely wife, Mary E. Anderson, of the home; his son, John Anderson Jr. and Pamela, his son's mother, of Brookhaven, Pa.; an adopted daughter, Ellen Greenfield of Goldsboro, an adopted son, Kenneth R. Edwards of Goldsboro; three grandchildren, who became a great part of his heart, Antwon, Tanisha and Leiza Greenfield, all of Goldsboro; nieces and nephews including Robert and Renette Anderson of Williamston, N.J., and Nia Anderson of Chester, Pa.; two great-nieces, Amber and Sidney of Pennsylvania; many cousins including John and Debra Burrell, Lovingston, Va., William and Delnus Anderson of Highland, Calif.; three brothers-in-law, Larry and Connie Edwards, George Edwards of Arizona and John and Angela Edwards of Chesapeake, Va.; four sisters-in-law, Sharon Lyndell of Washington, D.C., Sarah Edwards of Fayetteville, and Inez Morris Baldwin and Shirley Bradshaw, both of Goldsboro; his mother-in-law, Ellen Edwards of Goldsboro; several aunts and uncles; and a host of other relatives and friends, including Lloyd Melvin Dupree of Darby, Pa.; Henry and Anita Williamson of Kittrell, Ozzie and Juanita Murphy of Goldsboro and Hank Lynn of Pennsylvania.
