JESSIE J. CARRAWAY

AYDEN -- Mr. Jessie "Jay" Carraway, 79, son of the late Robert and Bettie Carraway of Wayne County, died Wednesday.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Farmer Funeral Service in Ayden. Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park in Goldsboro. Visitation will be held Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Farmer Funeral Service in Ayden.
He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War as an infantry C.P.L. He worked at E.I. DuPont in Kinston from 1953 to 1987.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Robert and Ralph Carraway, formerly of Goldsboro; Delbert Carraway, formerly of Sanford; Jamie Carraway, formerly of Indiatlantic, Fla.; Byrle Carraway, formerly of Greensboro; his sisters, Verna Mae Howell, formerly of Wilson and Addie Ellen Williams, formerly of Wilmington.
"Jay" was a member of the Ayden Rescue Squad and a part-time home builder. His hobbies included gardening, fishing and any kind of water sports. He mostly treasured his time with his grandchildren and his loving wife of 55 years. An outgoing person by nature, Jay loved to joke, sing and whistle. He attended Primitive Baptist Church in Goldsboro and the Ayden United Methodist Church.
His survivors include his wife of 55 years, Betty Sullivan Carraway of the home; his sons, Rex Carraway and wife, Raye Neal of Belhaven, Marcus Carraway and wife, Kelly of Youngsville; daughter, Pamela Jae Partin and husband, William of Lewisville; sisters, Christine Gordon Pate of Pikeville, Barbara Jean Carraway of Stuart, Fla.; Grandchildren, Justin Partin, of South Carolina, Derek Partin of Raleigh, Joseph Tyler of Greenville, Ann-Hunter, Walker and Spencer Carraway, all of Youngsville.
