KINSTON -- Julia Kate "Granny" Waters Southerland, 951/2, 1506 W. Washington Ave., went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Pinelawn Memorial Park. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday at Neuse Baptist Church with the Rev. Greg Kincaid officiating. Visitation will be held following the service and other times at the home.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and lived her life with grace. She loved her Lord first and then loved everyone she met. She was known to all as "Granny." She was faithful to her church and looked forward to every Sunday service.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Johnny Gordon Southerland; daughter Julia Evelyn Southerland; two grandchildren Michael Parrish and Patti Johnson; great-granddaughter, Tee Kearney, and son-in-law Dick Wagner.
Survivors include her daughters Doris Croom and husband, Marvin of Cary, Lena Wagner of Kinston and Grace McDougal and husband, Marvin of Shawboro; 11 grandchildren Travis Croom, Timothy Croom, Paula Kearney, Jackie Johnson, Jack Wagner, Rick Wagner, Nell Wagner, Bonnie Wagner, Pam Tilghman, Marsha Hudson, Vicky McDougal; 21 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren and two daughters by choice, Nancy Gladson and Lois Mullholland.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Kitty Askins Hospice, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534 or to Neuse Baptist Church Building Fund 2909 West Vernon Ave., Kinston, N.C., 28504.
Arrangements are being handled by Howard Carter Funeral Home.
