Ellen Mae Sutton Smith "Granny," 88, formerly of 4030 Central Heights Road, went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Mike Grady, Sherwood Howell and Joel Howell officiating. Burial will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery in LaGrange. Grandson, great-grandsons and grandsons-in-law will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Smith was born in the Jenny Lind Community of Lenoir County on Feb. 5, 1920, to the late Preston Nunn Sutton and Lou Pearl Anderson Sutton. She was married to the late William Andrew Smith. Mrs. Smith was a former resident of Somerset Court, where she made her "home" since 2000. Before that she was a homemaker and worked as a private sitter at Guardian Care. She was a member of Woods Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, where she served in a variety of offices many years ago.

She is survived by her son, William Preston Smith and wife, Joyce, of Asheville; her daughter, Hattie Lou Ellen Smith and husband, Tony, of Goldsboro; five grandchildren, Lori S. Howell and husband, Sherwood, of Goldsboro, LaRose S. Brock and husband, Warren, of Pikeville, Angela S. Ritchie and husband, Randy, of Pikeville, Tony A. Smith of Pikeville and Mary E. Smith of Princeton; five great-grandchildren, Joshua, Caleb and Jordan Howell and Brandon and Bryson Brock. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Betty M. Smith; a sister, Annie Ruth Sutton Herring; former daughter-in-law, Rebecca King, all of Goldsboro; a special friend, Betty Place of Winfall; several special nieces and nephews; and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Donald Clark Smith; a sister, Hattie Pearl Sutton Isler; and brothers, Sherwood Sutton and James Ivey Sutton.

The family will receive friends at Seymour Funeral Home following the service and other times at the home of her daughter, 4040 Central Heights Road, Goldsboro.
