MARGARET B. GRIFFITH

Died July 7, 2008

DENVER, Colo. -- Margaret Ballard Griffith, mother of Dr. Stan Griffith, formerly of Goldsboro, died on Monday at Pitt Memorial Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church in Goldsboro at 7 p.m. on Thursday. Family will receive friends after the service.

Margaret was born in Greenville, S.C., in 1918. At the center of her life was family and faith. She was married to Frank Griffith for 49 years until his death parted them in 1989. Margaret and Frank reared four children in Sumter, S.C.: Patricia, of Colorado; Stan of Goldsboro; Mac, of Colorado; and Nancy, of Illinois. Margaret and Frank had six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

After Frank's death, Margaret started a new life in Colorado, where she hiked and was a friend to the mountains for 15 years. In her twilight, she moved to Surf City, North Carolina, where she walked in the ocean's breeze until her spirit outran her strength. Always her feet were guided by love of family and faith.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wayne County Humane Society, P.O. Box 821, Goldsboro, N.C., 27533.

Arrangements are being handled by Wilkerson Funeral Home and Crematory, Greenville.
