Bessie Mitchell Sugg, 91, died Sunday evening at Britthaven Nursing Home surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Rosewood First Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Bostian and the Rev. Vernon Braswell officiating. Interment will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.

Bessie was born in Wayne County Sept. 18, 1916, to the late Thomas Edward Mitchell and Katie Williams Mitchell. She was married to the late Frederick L. "Fred" Sugg Sr.

Bessie was a homemaker and a member of Rosewood First Baptist Church.

Bessie is survived by her son, Frederick L. Sugg Jr. and wife, Shirley, of Goldsboro; her daughters, Betsy Snyder and husband, Robert, of Goldsboro, Shirley Creekmore and husband, Rudy, of Goldsboro and Tanis Nassef Lassiter and husband, Benton, of Goldsboro; her sister, Jean Parson and husband, Richard, of Goldsboro; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by five siblings.

The family will receive friends Tuesday following the service at Rosewood First Baptist Church and other times at the home of her son, 208 Becton Circle, Goldsboro.
