Died June 26, 2008

James Irvin Baker departed this earthly home to be in heaven with God Thursday morning, June 26, 2008.

A service celebrating his life will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. from the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro. Pastor David Brindle will officiate. Entombment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel.

He is survived by his significant other, Wendy Brown; close friends, Susan Bailey and Judy Newsome; his three companion pets, Sasha, Shana and Hershel; and many other extended friends and relatives.

James was a loyal member of Goldsboro Friends Meeting. He loved to help others within his church and his community.

He was an active member of the North Carolina Symphony and the Carolina Ballet, and an avid train collector. He was retired from Belk after 47 years of dedicated service. James loved music, life and people.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin and Lillie Brock Baker.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in James' memory to the American Heart Association or Goldsboro Friends Meeting, 700 Guilford St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 2 to 2:45 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home & Crematory.
