John Walter White, 91, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Funeral services will be held at Seymour Funeral Home Saturday, June 28, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Drew Clark and the Rev. Ryan Rasmussen officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Willow Dale Cemetery.

The family will greet friends Friday at Seymour Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m.

Born in Delaware City, Del., Dec. 11, 1916, John was the son of Walter Harrison White and Eugenia Thompson White.

He is survived by his wife, Ava; three children, Brian White of Sarasota, Fla., Gale White of Plattsburgh, N.Y., and Brittny Meyer of Bellingham, Wash.; six grandchildren, Jonathan J. White, John Christopher White, Timothy White, Lindsay White, Sean Meyer and Chase Valich; and two stepchildren, Steve Jackson of Reno, Nev., and Ellen Eubanks of Goldsboro.

John was an Air Force veteran of 33 years, having served in World War II and the Korean War. He retired from Seymour-Johnson Air Force Base with the rank of chief master sergeant.

He was a member of the Scott B. Berkeley chapter of the Air Force Association and served as state president for two years. He was a member of the Goldsboro Elks Lodge and a former member of the Lions and Golden K Kiwanis clubs.

John was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 2402 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534, or First Presbyterian Church, 1101 E. Ash St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
