JAMES W. SUTTON

Jan. 30, 1946-June 8, 2008

James Willie Sutton was born in Warsaw, N.C., Jan. 30, 1946. He was the son of the late Jonah Lee Sutton and Carrie Mae Best Sutton.

He departed this life June 8, 2008, at Britthaven Rehabilitation Center of Goldsboro.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 13, 2008, at 11 a.m. at St. Mark Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ), 700 W. Ash St. Bishop Alton A. Smith will officiate. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park North on Old Grantham Road.

A viewing will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel with the family receiving friends there from 6 to 7 p.m.

Mr. Sutton was educated in the Duplin County Public School System. He attended Wayne Community College in Wayne County and received his associate degree.

James was a member of the trustee board and men's chorus at St. Mark Church of Christ. He was Past Worshipful Master of Bell Stone Masonic Lodge No. 535 for three terms and a member of the Epicurean Civic Club. He served as a member of the city of Goldsboro Community Affairs Commission for four years.

Mr. Sutton was the proud owner of J&M Enterprises for several years, and he retired as survey party chief with the city of Goldsboro Engineering Department for 32 years.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Brown Sutton of the home; a daughter, Candace Maureen Sutton of Atlanta, Ga., sisters, Edith Hill of Faison, N.C., Daisy Williams (Willie) of Warsaw, N.C., Carrie Sutton of Washington D.C., Dessie Bell of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Helen Carlton (Avon) of Rocky Point, N.C.; and brothers, Reginald Sutton (Gladys) of Warsaw and Jonah Lee Sutton Jr. of Los Angeles, Calif.
