BLANCHE ATKINSON

June 26, 1951-June 11, 2008

Blanche Rose Howell Atkinson, 56, 402 B. S. William St., died Wednesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at McIntyre Funeral Home Chapel, with Bishop Alton Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Old Mill Cemetery.

She was born June 26, 1951, in Johnston County, the older of two children born to Oliver Lloyd and Mary Jane Howell.

She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents, Zeller Cox Atkinson and Richard and Jane Howell.

She attended school in Wayne County and graduated from Dillard High School in 1969. Blanch also attended Wayne Community College, and was employed at O'Berry Center until health caused her to retire on disability.

Blanche was a faithful and loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She was a "genuine" gift from God and a friend to all she met.

Blanche accepted Christ as her personal savior and became a member of Saint Mark Church. She loved her church and church family and attended faithfully until declining health disabled her.

Those left to cherish her memory are her devoted daughter and caregiver, Tonya Renee of the home; her faithful mother, Mary Jane Howell; her loving sister and her husband, James and Linda Sue Taylor; a nephew, whom she loved like a son, Omar J. Taylor of Florence, S.C.; a special great-aunt, Ada Herron of Goldsboro; and a host of special cousins and friends.

A viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. at McIntyre Funeral Home, 900 S. George St., with the family present to receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. The family will also receive friends at the home of her mother at 402 S. William St.

Condolences may be faxed to 731-4338 or e-mailed to mcintyrefuneralhomeministries@yahoo.com.
