WILLIAM E. CRAFT

KENANSVILLE -- Attorney William Earl "Pot" Craft, 84, died Wednesday, June 4.

He was born in Greenville May 14, 1924, the son of the late W.G. and the late Etta Brown Craft. He was preceded in death by his sister, Minnie Thaxton.

Mr. Craft was a veteran of the United States Army having served his country in Okinawa during World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star, World War II Victory Medal and a Good Conduct Medal.

He graduated from East Carolina Teachers College and Wake Forest University Law School where he became a charter member of Phi Alpha Delta Legal Fraternity.

Craft, who was in private practice for 52 years, served as the Kenansville town attorney for 33 years and was president of the Duplin County Bar Association for 26 years. He was a founding member of the Kenansville Lions Club of which he was a member for 57 years. He was a lifelong member of Grove Presbyterian Church and the Rotary Club.

He was a member of the James Sprunt Community College Board of Trustees and the recipient of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Anne Dail Craft; son, William "Billy" Earl Craft Jr.; daughter, Susan Craft Quinn and husband, Craig; son, G. Craig Craft; son, Mark Dail Craft and wife, Dawn; six grandchildren, Mary Quinn, Townsend Quinn and wife, Emily, Tyler Craft, Travis Craft, Jamie Craft and Max Craft.

Visitation will be Friday, June 6, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Grove Presbyterian Church, followed by interment at Golden Grove Cemetery in Kenansville.
