MARJORIE P. GARRIS

DUDLEY -- Marjorie Pridgen Garris, 70, died Wednesday morning at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Mount Olive, with Dr. Dennis Atwood officiating. Interment will be in the John Pridgen Family Cemetery at the family homeplace.

Mrs. Garris was a member of First Baptist Church of Mount Olive where she was currently serving as deacon, and was an active participant in the church's Relay for Life efforts. She had been a Sunday school teacher for the third- and fourth-graders for more than 18 years.

Also, she was a retired substitute school teacher in the Wayne County Schools, primarily at Southern Wayne High School.

She had been a constant companion in her husband's military career as duty called them to numerous appointments.

She is survived by her husband, the Rev. William Gerald Garris of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Angela and Gary Hughston of Augusta, Ga., Rose and Ricky Beasley of Mount Olive and Sallie and Ralph Fiore of Garner; a son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Jenny Garris of Goldsboro; seven grandchildren, Lee Beasley, Brandon Beasley, Kelly Beasley, Jake Garris, Cody Garris, Hunter Fiore and River Fiore; six sisters and brothers-in-law, Norma and Bob Smith of Baltimore, Md., Nancy (Mrs. Bud) Holzworth of New Bern, Mary Linda and Tom Sutton of St. Albans, W.Va., Betty Sue and the Rev. Paul Rose of Mount Olive, Brenda and the Rev. Ken Williams of Rochester, N.Y., and Judy and Bill Kelly of Raleigh; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, William Harper and Marcia Pridgen of Spring Hill, Fla., Charles and Jo Pridgen of Mount Olive, David Pridgen of Utah and Clark Pridgen of Mount Olive; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her parents, John and Ethel Williams Pridgen, and a little brother, Robert Morris Pridgen, preceded her in death.

The family will receive friends at Tyndall Funeral Home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m., and at other times at the residence.
