William Henry "Bill" Edwards, 80, died Sunday afternoon at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Earl Farthing and Dr. Bob Fulkerson officiating. Interment will be Friday at noon in Sandhill State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake, N.C., with the Rev. Kip Kimbrough officiating.

Bill was born in Sampson County Nov. 28, 1927, to the late Paul I. Edwards and Elsie Flowers Edwards.

He was part-owner and manager of Edwards Brothers Menswear in Goldsboro from 1961 to 1993. Bill later worked in the Men's Store for Brody's and Proffits from 1993 until his retirement in 2005.

He was member of Madison Avenue Baptist Church, where he was an active member of the Womble Farmer Sunday school class and where he served as a deacon and usher.

Bill was a past member of the Goldsboro Civitan Club. He served his country in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956.

Bill is survived by his wife, Gladys Fields Edwards; his daughters, Melba Anderson of Wake Forest and Iva Kimbrough and husband, Kip, of Copiapo, Chile; his son, John Edwards of Zebulon; his seven grandchildren, Shawn Schwenk, Philip Bohannon, Jeanette Kimbrough, Brandon Kimbrough, Alyssa Kimbrough, J.T. Edwards and wife, Chastity Batchelor Edwards, and Kendall Edwards; two great-grandchildren, Amber Schwenk and Carol Ann Edwards; his sister, Jessie Davis of Dallas, Texas; and his brother, Homer P. Edwards of Goldsboro.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Madison Avenue Baptist Church, 300 S. Madison Ave., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530, or the Alzheimer's Association for Research, 300 Oberlin Road, Suite 208, Raleigh, N.C., 27605.

The family will receive friends Thursday following the service at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at his home, 609 Woodberry Drive, Goldsboro.
