SEVEN SPRINGS -- Chester Wells "C.W." Smith, 55, of 383 Vann Smith Road, died Friday, May 30, 2008 at Wake Medical Center.

C.W. was born in Lenoir County to Chester Wells Smith Sr. and Audrey Tyndall Smith. A life-long farmer, C.W. was a member of Zion United Methodist Church and served as Sunday School Superintendent for many years. C.W. was a member of the Pricetown Fire Department where he was serving as President of the Board of Directors and was a former Chief. He has served on the Tri-County Board for 25 years and was presently serving as secretary. Known as "Cool Whip" in the Pricetown Community, C.W. had the unofficial title of "Mayor of Pricetown." He enjoyed dining and visiting with friends at Mae's Restaurant and collecting old tobacco signs.

The funeral will be held Monday, June 2, 2008 at 3 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home with the Revs. Leland Heath and Bryce Rouse officiating. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery.

In addition to his parents, C.W. is survived by his wife, Kathy Sutton Smith; three daughters, Brandy Rouse and husband, Greg, of Seven Springs, Kristy Brock and husband, Russ, of Mount Olive, Holly Williams and husband, Jeremy, of Mount Olive; two grandchildren, Quinton Rouse and Holden Williams; sister, Jo Southerland and husband, Shelton, of Seven Springs. C.W. was preceded in death by a sister, Vanessa Smith.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the home. Memorials may be made to Pricetown Volunteer Fire Department, c/o Michael Price, 2005 Zion Church Road, Mount Olive, NC 28365. Arrangements are with Rouse Funeral Home, La Grange.
