GLORIA ROSE COX ARMSTRONG

FOUNTAIN -- Mrs. Gloria Cox Armstrong, 68, of 5821 E. Lang St., Fountain, died at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville, on Saturday, May 10, 2008, at 3:15 a.m.

She was born May 4, 1940, in Guilford County. She was the wife of John Charles Armstrong, who survives, and the youngest daughter of the late Walter Eugene Cox and Mabel Greeson Cox, both deceased. Gloria Armstrong earned her Bachelor of Science degree in business administration at East Carolina University. She was a member of the faculty of Wayne Community College.

She retired as the business manager for the John C. Armstrong Construction Company and was licensed as a North Carolina real estate broker. Mrs. Armstrong helped organize the Alliance of Retired Military, which was instrumental in restoring healthcare benefits for retired military personnel. She and her husband were members and also very active with the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Chapel.

In addition to her husband of the home in Fountain, she is survived by a sister, Mrs. Claire Cox Gottlieb of New York.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Shirley Cox Young, and a brother, Mr. Walter Eugene Cox Jr.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2008 at the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Chapel. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Magnolia Cemetery in Elon by the Rev. Howard Thompson. A reception to greet friends and family will be held at the Ramada Convention Center, 2703 Ramada Road, Burlington, N.C., following the graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4-A Oak Branch Dr., Greensboro, N.C. 27407 or the Alliance of Retired Military, P.O. Box 10685, Goldsboro, N.C. 27532.
