MOUNT OLIVE -- Tawanta Rhodes Platt, 59, 119 Elmore St., succumbed to this earthly life and passed into eternity Saturday afternoon at her home.

Homegoing services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Northeast Free Will Baptist Church of Mount Olive with Apostle Norbert E. Simmons officiating. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Park.

She was the daughter of J.B. Rhodes Sr., Goldsboro City Councilman and proprietor of Rhodes Funeral Homes Inc., and the late Mildred Body Rhodes, floral designer of Mildred's Florist.

Her educational journey was spent in Goldsboro City Schools. She graduated from Dillard High School June 6, 1967. She matriculated at North Carolina Central University May 14, 1972, with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Upon graduation from college, she devoted her life to her father's business as office manager and master insurance agent for United Famly Life and Forethought.

She was affiliated with North Carolina Central Alumni and was a devoted lifetime member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

She was preceded in death by one son, Delreese Platt, and one brother, J.B. Rhodes Jr.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory a devoted husband, Samuel Platt of the home; one son, Derrick Platt and wife, Donishia, of Goldsboro; one daughter. Bianca Platt of the home; one sister, Camilia Rhodes Smith of Washington D.C.; two brothers, Jimmy Bernardo Rhodes of Goldsboro and Norman Rhodes of Columbia, S.C.; and four grandchildren.

There will be a viewing Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel. A sympathetic and dignified service provided by Rhodes Funeral Home of Goldsboro.
