PIKEVILLE -- Jim Berry "J.B" Smith, 89, died early Monday morning at his home surrounded by his family.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bobby Heath officiating. Burial will follow in the Newsome Family Cemetery.
J.B. was born in Wayne County March 6, 1919, to the late Lloyd Smith and Elizabeth Gurley Smith. He was a retired farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine Howell Smith; his son, Randy Smith of Pikeville; his daughter, Glenda Martikke of Goldsboro; his sister, Ellen Yelverton of Goldsboro; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Smith; his daughter-in-law, Linda Smith; five sisters; and seven brothers.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at his home, 337-C Bartlett Road, Pikeville.
