JOE ANN LEWIS CALLAHAN

Joe Ann Lewis Callahan, 75, of 105 Camellia Drive Princeton, died Tuesday evening at Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was born Dec. 17, 1932, and was the daughter of the late Gilliam Elvis and Bessie Frazier Lewis. She was the widow of John Wesley Callahan and also preceded in death by a son, Andy Callahan.

She was valedictorian for the Class of 1951 at Knightdale High School. In her senior year, she was editor and chief of the Knightdale High School yearbook, the K'Dalian. She graduated from Kings Business College in Raleigh. Mrs. Callahan was once the executive secretary for the N.C. Medical Society, executive secretary of the N.C. Funeral Directors Association, a Red Cross volunteer, a member of the Garden Club of Goldsboro, secretary for the Princeton Baptist Church and secretary for Dr. Arthur C. Stone in Smithfield. She was a member of the Princeton Baptist Church, the church choir and many other church involvements, including providing meals for the bereaved families.

The funeral will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, May 12, at the Princeton Baptist Church with the Rev. Dwayne Batten officiating. Committal services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Knightdale Baptist Cemetery.

She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Wesley Callahan and wife, Becky, of Cleveland, Tenn., Gilliam Gregory Callahan and wife, Syvonne, of Clayton; brother and sister-in-law, M. Douglas Lewis and wife, Doris, of Tarboro; grandchildren, Joshua, Matthew, and Elaine; and a great-grandchild, Kayleigh.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 8300 Health Park Suite 10, Raleigh, N.C. 27615.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., and immediately following the memorial service at Princeton Baptist Church.

The family is being served by Casey Funeral Home in Princeton.
