KINSTON -- James Ivey Sutton, 64, of 760 Cody Lane, died Thursday, May 8, 2008, at Lenoir Memorial Hospital. James was born in Lenoir County to the late Preston Nunn Sutton and Pearl Anderson Sutton. He worked over 31 years with the U.S. Postal Service and worked part-time with Herring's Grill for 50 years. James served with both the LaGrange Volunteer Fire Department and the LaGrange Rescue Squad. He was an avid race fan and enjoyed fishing.

A service of remembrance was held Saturday, May 10, 2008, at 5 p.m. from LaGrange First Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ronnie Hobgood officiating.

James is survived by his wife, Marketta Peavey Sutton; two daughters, Belinda McCall and husband, Tommy, of Kinston, Kim House and husband, Mike, of LaGrange; two grandsons, Garrett House and Scott McCall and friend, Brooke Brown; great-granddaughter, Madison McCall; two sisters, Ellen Mae Smith of Goldsboro, Annie Ruth Herring and husband, Harold, of Goldsboro; special family friend, George Holland; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by a brother, Sherwood Sutton; and a sister, Hattie Pearl Isler.

Memorials may be made to the Sandy Bottom Fire Department, 2178 Greene Haynes Road, Kinston, NC 28504. Arrangements are with Rouse Funeral Home, La Grange.
