JEAN HAITHCOCK

NEW BERN -- Ruby Jean Teachey Haithcock, 74, went to be with her Lord on Sunday at her home surrounded by her family.

Jean was born in Wayne County to the late James Thomas Teachey and Ruby Hare Teachey. She was floral designer for many years having owned and operated Jean's of Trentwood's Florist in New Bern. Jean was a faithful member of Garber United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years and had served as president of the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed sewing, water color painting, growing and arranging flowers from her yard.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Garber United Methodist Church with the Rev. Powell Osteen and the Rev. Craig Hearne officiating. Entombment will follow in Greenleaf Memorial Park.

Jean is survived by her daughters, Carol Jean Thomas and husband, Jimmy, of New Bern, Dianne McSorley Hirko and husband, John, of New Bern, Linda Gay Povich and husband, Peter, of New Bern, Vickie Lorraine Cumbo of New Bern; her son, Michael Edward Haithcock and wife, Rosemary, of Lynchburg, Va.; her sister, Linda Stutts and husband, Joe, of North Augusta, S.C.; her sisters-in-law, Georgia Teachey and Lela Teachey, both of Goldsboro; 10 grandchildren, Mac McSorley and wife, Karen Hill, Chris McSorley and wife, Ashley, Angela Sensenig and husband, Richard, Rebecca Stanton and husband, Sean, Michael Haithcock and wife, Erin, Jessica Haithcock, Randy Haithcock, Samantha Povich, Katlin Povich and Nicholas Cumbo; and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Ed Haithcock; and her brothers, James E. Teachey and Ronald Teachey.

Although flowers are welcome, memorials may be made to Garber United Methodist Church, 4201 Country Club Road, New Bern, N.C. 28560 or the Croatan Church of Christ, 3446 Old Airport Road, New Bern, N.C. 28560.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Pollock-Wells-Best Funeral Home in New Bern and other times at her home, 5004 Trentwood Drive, New Bern, N.C.
