RALEIGH -- Douglas Ray Corbett passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2008. The son of the late Beatrice and Norman E. Corbett, he was born Oct. 3, l944 in Goldsboro. He is survived by his brother, Selby Corbett and wife, Dianne; niece Sharon Corbett-Mumford and her husband, Allen; nephew Alan Davis Corbett and long-time friends Stephen Jackman and David Wade. Doug also had many cousins and other loving relatives in the area.

Doug postponed his college education to join the U.S. Navy and served four years, enjoying seeing the world and getting his taste for travel. Upon returning home he continued his education at ECU Greenville, where he received a Bachelor of Arts. He had a rewarding 27 year career teaching art at East Cary Middle School and Athens Drive High School. Doug referred to teaching as "shaping young minds toward new horizons," which he enjoyed every day.

Doug lived every day to its fullest. He loved to travel and did so extensively worldwide. He maintained many friends in many places and lived to his belief that "life is not a dress rehearsal." He has touched many people and lived the last days of his life with courage and grace.

He passed away surrounded by his friends at the home of David Wade, where he has lived the last 17 months. Thanks to the many friends and caregivers that surrounded him with kindness and love and support.

Services will be held Tuesday, May 6, 7 p.m. at the Daniels Memorial United Methodist Church, 2803 E Ash St., Goldsboro N.C., 27534. Remembrances can be made in his memory to Duke's Robert Preston Tish Brain Tumor Center.
