WILMINGTON -- Christine Fail Brantham Hobbs, 86, died after an extended illness, Tuesday.

She was born in Johnston County, N.C., to the late Willie R. and Bessie Woodard Fail. She was preceded in death by her husband, W.K. Hobbs Sr.; son, Don Brantham; grandson, Will Hobbs III; and three sisters and a brother.

She graduated from Rosewood High School and lived in Goldsboro, N.C., until 1982. She retired from General Electric Company after 25 years of service.

After marrying W. K. Hobbs Sr., she moved to Wilmington. They enjoyed traveling with friends and relatives. Some of her favorite pastimes were crossword puzzles, needlework and reading. She was a faithful member of Temple Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir.

She is survived by her daughter, Maxine Brantham Hobbs and husband, Bill; her son, Tom Brantham and wife, Mary Rose; her daughter-in-law, Pam Brantham; a stepdaughter, Janet Dorman and husband, Mike Norris; a stepson, Steve Hobbs and wife, Kayren; grandchildren, Kinzy Tippett and husband, Jeff, Joel Brantham, Claire Johnson, Dabney Brantham, Lewis Hobbs, Elise Hobbs, Emily Hobbs; great-granddaughter, Grace Tippett; a brother-in-law, John Henry Penuel; a sister-in-law, Kathleen Fail; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. Thursday, April 17, 2008, at Oleander Memorials Gardens followed by a graveside service at 11 a.m., with the Rev. E. C. Mattocks officiating.
