BILLY GENE CROOM

Nov. 16, 1956-April 12, 2008

WALSTONBURG -- Billy Gene Croom, lovingly known by his family and friends as "Sugar Lump," of 2421 Walston Road, died on Saturday at his residence. Billy was born to the late Alonza Croom Sr. and Hattie Belle Jones Croom.

Mr. Croom is survived by his faithful and devoted brothers, James Earl Croom of the home, another faithful brother and caretaker, Alonza Croom Jr. and wife, Doris, of Walstonburg, N.C., Matthew Jones of Fayetteville, N.C.; one sister, Carol Jean Barfield of LaGrange, N.C.; two special nephews, Leonard Earl Croom of Walstonburg, N.C., Michael Alonza Croom of Goldsboro, N.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the Saint Delight Church Cemetery, Speight Bridge Road, Walstonburg, N.C. Pastor George Streeter will officiate. A viewing will be conducted on Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 423 S. James St., Goldsboro, N.C. from 1 to 7 p.m. Also, a wake will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at Hamilton Funeral Chapel from 6 to 7 p.m. with the family present to receive other family members and friends.

At other times, the family will receive family members and friends at the home of Alonza and Doris Croom Jr., 2330 Walston Road, Walston-burg, N.C.
