THE REV. WILLIAM H. CARTER

The Rev. William Henry Carter, 90, of 205 Dixie Trail, died late Saturday at Wayne Memorial Hospital. The Rev. Carter was born in Wayne County to the late Governor Vance and Julia Lee Carter. His wife, Rossie Taylor Carter; sons, Nathan, Johnny and Ralph; and all brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

The Rev. Carter founded the Spirit of Pentecostal Holiness Conference in 1976 and served as pastor of the Spirit of Pentecost Holiness Church from 1976 until 1999. The Rev. Carter attended the Goldsboro Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church prior to his disablement. He retired from civil service at Seymour Johnson Air force Base in 1986.

Funeral services will be held at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and Crematory Thursday night at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Willard Hardison, the Rev. Tommy Hagan and Al Laws officiating. Visitation will follow immediately after the funeral service. Burial will be on Friday morning at 11 a.m. at Willow Dale Cemetery.

He is survived by three sons and their wives, William Ray and wife, Sylvia Jean, of Dudley, Edward Earl and wife, Patricia Annette, of Seven Springs, Ronnie Lee and wife, Mary Frances, of Mount Olive; and daughters-in-law, Lorraine Carter of Seven Springs, Shirley Carter of Goldsboro. Seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive him.

Family members will greet friends Thursday evening immediately following the service at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.
