MARJORIE LEE JAMES MITCHELL

Marjorie Lee James Mitchell, 84, went to be with her Lord on Monday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family.
A lifelong resident of Goldsboro, Marjorie was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. William Doran James. Known for her beautiful voice, she sang on her own radio program as a young adult. She was a charter member of Madison Avenue Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir until the time of her failing health.
Marjorie loved North Carolina and was interested in its history and heritage. She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a gentle soul and a true southern lady who loved all things southern and its traditions.
Marjorie was an avid gardener and a longtime member of the Gay Blades Garden Club. She enjoyed being in her garden and shared with her family and friends with the old tradition of "pass alongs." She took great pleasure in arranging flowers and had a talent that won her many awards.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, Marjorie is survived by her husband, Leon Charles Mitchell; her daughters, Carol Trout and husband, Fred, of Slidell, La., Harriett Sharpe and husband, Kenneth, of Ashburn, Va., Emily Nobles and husband, John, of Morehead City, Anne Warner and husband, Dale, of Kinston, Kathy Hutcheson and husband, Jim, of Rocky Mount, Mary Margaret Brantley and husband, Julian, of Rocky Mount, Susan Goodwin and husband, Harry, of Wilson; her sister, Shirley Hill of Winston-Salem; 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
A service to celebrate Marjorie's life will be held Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Madison Avenue Baptist Church with the Dr. Talmage Williams and her granddaughter, the Rev. Molly Ann Tyson Templeton officiating. The family will greet friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Marjorie's memory may be made to Madison Avenue Baptist Church, designated for the Covered Walkway Fund or the Music Ministry, 300 S. Madison Ave., Goldsboro, N.C. 27534.
The family would like to thank the Fourth Floor nurses and staff at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Dr. Talmage Williams and his wife, Delores, and the staff of Kitty Askins Hospice Center for the love and care of Marjorie during her declining health. A special thank you is extended to Dr. Firas Chazli for the compassionate care he also gave to our wife and mother.
