John Dorsey Strickland Sr., 78, of 1014 12th St., passed away Thursday at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro.

The funeral will be held today at 3 p.m. from the chapel of Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro. Interment will follow at Progressive Church Cemetery in Princeton. Dr. Worth Worley will officiate.

Mr. Strickland was born in Wayne County on Jan. 22, 1930 to the late Dorsey and Myrtle Collier Strickland. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Mr. Strickland retired from General Electric with 38 years of service.

He is survived by his loving wife, Janice Worley Strickland; two sons, John Dorsey Strickland Jr. and his wife, Jackie, of Seven Springs and Jeffrey Wayne Strickland and his wife, Debra, of Banner Elk; three brothers, Donald Strickland and his friend, Jerri Sutton, of Goldsboro, Charles Strickland and his wife, Margaret, of Pikeville and Ray Strickland and his wife, Betty, of Goldsboro; three sisters, Dorothy Colie of Kinston, Betty Littleton of Pikeville and Kay Peele and her husband, Jimmy, of Pikeville; four granddaughters, Pamela Grady and her husband, Bennie, April Strickland, Heather Strickland, and Amanda Strickland; one step-grandson, Brian Kornegay; and one aunt, Ethel Collier of Pikeville.

The family will receive friends today one hour prior to the service from 2 until 3 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
