EDWARD 'ED' LEE LAWHON

Died March 2, 2008

HAMPTON, Va. -- Edward "Ed" Lee Lawhon, 70, passed away Sunday. He was the son of the late D.V. and Viola Lawhon being a native of Princeton, N.C. Ed has been an area resident for 53 years and a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He loved fishing from the Grandview Fishing Pier, before the pier was taken by Hurricane Isabel. Dedicated to his customers, Ed was a carpet salesman on the peninsula from 1952-2007. Ed also served his country in the National Guard, as a drill sergeant. He enjoyed watching birds and being a avid Redskin and Nascar fan, but his greatest joy in life was his grandchildren and tending to his garden. Besides his parents, Ed was predeceased by four brothers, David Lawhon, Clarence W. Adams, Floyd J. Adams, Johnnie S. Adams; and a sister, Myrtle A. Lara.

Ed leaves behind to cherish his memory, wife of 47 years, Barbara M. Lawhon; son and daughter-in-law, Randy L. and Selina Lawhon, of Carrollton; daughters and son-in-law, Debbie R. and Bob Korff of Poquoson, Suzanne M. Lawhon of Hampton; brother, Elmer Lawhon; sisters, Thelma A. Johnson, Velma Toler and her husband, Charles; grandchildren, Dawson L. Lawhon, Ashley N. Korff, Emily P. Korff; a host of nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2008, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home with the Rev. Gene Parisher officiating. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of Dr. John Q. Mattern, Dr. Derrick E. Ridley and Dr. Richard A. Hoffer for their care of Ed over the past years.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 11835 Canon Blvd., Newport News, Va. 23606.
