DAVID JENNINGS ROSE JR.

David Jennings "D.J." Rose Jr., 77, died Sunday at his home.

D.J. was born in Wayne County to Dr. David Rose and Janet Conway Rose. He graduated from Goldsboro High School and attended North Carolina State University, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. D.J. served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard and was an ardent sailor.

He was a licensed landscape architect and was the owner and operator of Carolina Nursery Service in Goldsboro. D.J. was a past member and president of the N.C. Landscape Contractors Association and also served on the board of the Downtown Goldsboro Development Corporation and the Goldsboro Historic District Commission.

D.J. had passion for purchasing and renovating historic homes and buildings and was awarded the Gertrude S. Carraway Merit Award from the N.C. Preservation Foundation. He was known for his wood carvings of eagles, hawks, shore birds and song birds and had received several awards from the Eastern North Carolina carving expositions that he attended. D.J. also had a great love for playing the piano.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Willow Dale Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Fred Clarke and the Rev. Jean Hood officiating.

D.J. is survived by his wife, Anna Williams Rose; his sons, David Rose III and wife, Kathy, of Wilmington, John Rose and wife, Jill, of Asheville; his daughters, Page Rose Pond and husband, David, of Charlotte, Janet Conway Rose and husband, Greg Allen, of Wake Forest; his grandchildren, Jennings, Louise and Mavis Rose, McLain Rose, Ryland and Virginia Pond, Davis Allen. He is also survived by his brother, Conway Rose and wife, Lew, of Goldsboro; his brother-in-law, Sam Patrick; his stepsons, Gene Bullard Jr. of Texas, Jimmy Bullard of Texas, Keith Bullard of Goldsboro; three nieces, one nephew and many cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marjorie Rose Patrick; and nephew, Samuel Patrick.

Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice or to Community Home Care and Hospice, 1201 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, N.C. 27534.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
