ROBERT 'BOBBY' SMITH

DUDLEY -- Robert "Bobby" Smith, 65, was born Jan. 16, 1943, and went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, Feb. 21, at 12:50 a.m. He fought a long and courageous battle with heart disease and cancer.

He was born and grew up in Pikeville, N.C., and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Fore Christ Church although he was unable to attend recently because of his illness. Bobby was a loving and devoted husband, dad and grandfather. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren. Bobby looked forward to and enjoyed traveling to Tennessee. He thoroughly enjoyed his time spent riding his antique tractor while doing yard work and sitting in his barn listening to the "oldies."

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Justin Heath and the Rev. Josh Smith officiating. Graveside services will be held Sunday, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m. at Pikeville Cemetery.

Bobby is survived by his faithful loving wife of 39 years, Ann Smith; five loving daughters, Margaret Baltazar and husband, Justino, of Mount Olive, N.C., Candy Rhoten and husband, James, of Kinsgport, Tenn., Michelle Smith of the home, Bobbie Jean Velasquez and husband, Chano, of Mount Olive, N.C., Carrie Smith of the home; one son, Jonathan Agnew and wife, Audra, of Strasburg, Va.; nine grandchildren, Andy, Jonathan Sr., Matthew, Lauran, Jimmy, Jordan, Jared, Caitlin and Austin; two foster grandchildren, David and Jason; one great-grandson, Jonathan Jr.; two expected great-grandchildren; a wonderful loving sister, June Smith and husband, Durwood, of Pikeville, N.C., and their three children; and his loving mother-in-law, Margaret Kidd of Dudley, N.C.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathleen Smith; father-in-law, the Rev. Thurman Lee Kidd Sr.; and an infant grandchild.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Dugom and his wonderful staff for their loving care through these long years and to Debbie Wall and Jayne Snowles at 3HC-Home, Health and Hospice Care and a very special thank you to Kitty Askins Hospice Center for their tender loving care of our precious loved one. The family would also like to say a special thank you to all the family members that helped out during this hard time.

Family members will greet friends immediately following the service at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and at other times will be at the home, 381 Potts Road, Dudley, N.C.
