On Feb. 19, 2008, Harvey Bentley Jr., 72, of Dogwood Court, entered into eternal rest at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. Mr. Bentley, who was the son of the late Lynn and Ruby Bentley, was originally from Thomson, Ga., but had been a resident of Goldsboro since 1968. He was a graduate of Wayne Community College and retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1974 at Seymour Johnson AFB. He retired again from Wayne County's Department of Energy in 1993.

Mr. Bentley is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 49 years, Elsie M. Bentley; one son, Andre Bentley of Yorktown, Va.; one daughter, Angela Bentley Pedersen of Atlanta, Ga.; three grandchildren, Eric Pedersen of San Diego, Calif.; Dana Pedersen of Atlanta, Ga.; Andrew Bentley of Yorktown, Va.; and one son-in-law, Conrad Pedersen of Atlanta. He also leaves to mourn, four sisters, Helen Smith of Augusta, Ga.; Betty McNeal of Thomson, Ga.; Joyce Cowins of Thomson, Ga.; and Mary West of Columbia, Md.; one brother, Jacob Bentley of Clearwater, Fla.; five sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be a viewing on Friday, Feb. 22, from 3-6 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro, and the family will be there from 6 to 7 p.m. Mr. Bentley's final resting place will be in Thomson, Ga. The Bentley family asks for your prayers as they grieve through this tremendous loss.
