MARCUS C.S. CHERRY III

RALEIGH -- Marcus Cicero Stephen Cherry III, 71, died Wednesday night at his home at 6429 Horseshoe Drive in Raleigh.

Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Walter T. and Starkey Moore Cherry. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and had enjoyed a career in the insurance business, having operated the former MCS Cherry and Son Insurance Agency in Mount Olive for many years.

He is survived by a daughter, Virginia Elizabeth Cherry Powell of Blowing Rock, N.C.; two sons, M.C. Stephen Cherry IV and his wife, Laurie, of Manassas, Va., Dawson Lambert Cherry of Charleston, S.C.; six grandchildren; and a brother, Walter T. Cherry Jr. of Wilmington. A sister, Starkey Cherry Wentz, preceded him in death.

A graveside service of remembrance will be held on Monday, Feb. 11, at noon in the Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive, with the Rev. J. Blaney Pridgen officiating.
