LAGRANGE -- Bertie Owens Gray, 93, died Wednesday at Magnolia Cottage Care. Mrs. Gray was born in Wilson County to the late Jack and Fannie Hamilton Owens. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Farris Gray; two children, Margaret Gray and Edward F. Gray Jr.; son-in-law, Jennings Dawson; two sisters, Alice Deans and Sadie Varnell; and a brother, Harvey Owens Sr. Mrs. Gray was a long-time member of White Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church. She had a great love of flowers, working in her yard and cooking for her son.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, at 7 p.m. from Rouse Funeral Home with the Rev. Greg Stancil officiating. Interment will be Saturday at 11 a.m. from Fairview Cemetery.
Mrs. Gray is survived by a daughter, Grace Dawson of LaGrange; daughter-in-law, Annette Gray of LaGrange; brother, Sidney Owens of LaGrange; six grandchildren, Gale Yarborough and husband, Terry, of Kinston, David Dawson and wife, Carla, of LaGrange, Danny Gray and wife, Kaye, of LaGrange, Lynn Everett and husband, Roy, of New Bern, Donald Gray and wife, Judy, of LaGrange, Luanne Scott and husband, Eddie, of Goldsboro; 14 great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and three step-great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday following the service and at other times they will be at the home of Grace Dawson, 2988 Jenny Lind Road, LaGrange.
