FAISON -- Barbara Ann Gross Collins, 80, of 165 N.C. Highway 50 North, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, in Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro, N.C.
An interment service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29, at Meadowbrook Cemetery in Lumberton, N.C., and a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 30, at Faison Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jonathan Sherrod officiating.
Barbara, born in Brooklyn, N.Y., was the daughter of the late Arthur E. Gross and Marion G. Gross of Rockville Center, Long Island, N.Y. She attended the Academy of St. Joseph in Brentwood, N.Y. and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Adelphi College in Garden City, Long Island, N.Y. In 1949, where she was a member of the Alpha Lambda Chapter of Sigma Kappa. She married Jack Collins on May 3, 1952, at Bethesda by the Sea, Palm Beach, Fla. She worked for David's Fifth Avenue in Garden City, N.Y., and Palm Beach, Fla., and was an officer of C-T Sales, Inc. from 1978 to 1998. Barbara was a member of the Duplin County Education Foundation and the advisory council of the Employment Security Commission. She was predeceased by her son, Robert Arthur Collins; her brother, Jacques Gross; and two sisters, Irene Gooch and Ruth Hartmus.
Survivors are her husband, Jack of the home; a son, Jack Collins Jr. and wife, Sharon, of Raleigh; a daughter, Susan Collins Mikitka and husband, Nick, of Faison; five grandchildren, B. J. Collins and wife, Amber, of Wake Forest, Matthew Collins of West Palm Beach, Fla., Jack Collins III of Raleigh, Conner and Hunter Mikitka of Faison.
The family will receive friends after the memorial service on Wednesday at Faison Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faison Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 502 W. Main St., Faison, N.C. 28341.
