LAGRANGE -- Herbert H. "Gramps" Alphin, 75, died Monday at Lenoir Memorial Hospital. A retired farmer, Mr. Alphin was the son of the late Manly and Julia Alphin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Harper Alphin; and brothers, Bruce, Beverly, C.W. and Keith Alphin.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, at 7 p.m. from Rouse Funeral Home with Dr. Randy Spaugh and the Rev. Norman Davis Jr. officiating. Interment will be Friday at 11 a.m. from Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Wheeless officiating.
"Gramps" is survived by two sons, Leon Carlton Alphin and wife, Lisa, of LaGrange and Herbert Jay Alphin and wife, Marla, of LaGrange; stepson, Norman Davis Jr. and wife, Kay, of LaGrange; six grandchildren, Holly Gentry and husband, Mark, of Goldsboro, Dana Thacker and husband, David, of Robbinsville, Jacob Alphin, John Alphin, Abbie Alphin and Zachary Alphin, all of LaGrange; two brothers, Wilbur Alphin and wife, Dorothy, Gene Alphin and wife, Ella Mae; sister, Julia Elizabeth "Bet" Strickland and husband, Jack; along with several nieces, nephews and special friends.
The family will receive friends Thursday following the service and at other times they will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carlton Alphin, 3209 Jim Sutton Road, LaGrange.
