ROBERT W. RASCH

Oct. 5, 1925-Dec. 31, 2007

Robert "Bob" Walter Rasch, 82, of the Rosewood community, died Monday after many years of illness at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Robert was born in Maple Heights, Ohio, to the late Walter and Rose Satava Rasch. He enjoyed the 72 years he lived in Maple Heights. He and his wife, Margaret, moved to Goldsboro 10 years ago to be closer to their daughter and son-in-law.

Bob was a postal carrier for over 30 years with the Maple Heights postal service. He received his 50-year gold card and pin with the National Association of Letter Carriers in 1999. He was a naval veteran who served on the USS Princeton aircraft carrier as an aviation ordinance man during World War II. Robert was a member in good standing for many years at the American Legion Post 309 and VFW Post 3290 in Maple Heights, Ohio.

An avid sportsman, Bob made many trips to Canada over the years to hunt bear and fished all the native species with his close friends from Maple Heights. He also hunted deer, pheasant, quail, squirrel and rabbit during the Ohio seasons.

Robert is survived by his wife of 56 years, Margaret Navolanic Rasch; his daughter, Roberta "Bobbi" Jean Stanford, and son-in-law, Ret. Master Sgt. Jimmie Lee Stanford Jr., of Goldsboro; and a sister, Virginia Rasch Rafert of Mentor, Ohio.

The family would like to thank Dr. Atkins, Dr. Marshall and Dr. Chang, their nurses, the ladies in the lab and the entire office staff at Southeastern Medical Oncology Center; Dr. Daniel Poole, his nurses and the entire staff at Eastern Medical Associates; Dr. Celestine Amaefule and his staff; and the seventh floor nurses and staff at Wayne Memorial Hospital for all their care, concern, kindness and excellent medical services they provided during the many years of Robert's various illnesses.

No formal service will be held. Any notes of condolences for the family can be e-mailed to bstanford@nc.rr.com. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in Robert's name to the Wayne County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 227, Goldsboro, N.C. 27533-0227.
